3 Days in Berlin (May 2022)

Make the most out of it

From Airport to City Center

After landing in Berlin Brandenburg Airport, it may get a little confusing to understand how to get to the city by train.

I preferred the train because I guessed it may be the fastest route.

But to be able to get the right tickets, you should get help from the airline personnel. The ticket panel is a little bit confusing. Be careful with the zone selections.

There are different lines that you can choose from. The regional trains and FEX which is the Airport Express Train. The important thing is that you must pick the one that is easier for you to get to your desired destination point.

Once you are settled, it is time to travel around.

Day 1 (Mitte)

Brandenbourg Tor, Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Checkpoint Charlie, Gendarmenmarkt

My hotel was in Spittelmarkt.

So, I started walking from my hotel to Brandenbourg Tor by using the Unter den Linden which is a must-see avenue. Meaning under the linden trees. It is a 1.5km long avenue.

There are several government buildings and beautiful landmarks along the way.

Shops, cafes, and restaurants on your left and right.

On Unter den Linden, you should stop by to check out

· Bebelplatz (public square) Which is the location that Nazi book burnings happened.

· Humpboldt University

Before you will reach the Brandenbourg Tor, you will see the famous Hotel Adlon.

Hotel Adlon

After the Tor,

You can head to the Reichstag (parliament building). The building has a large glass dome at the very top it. A beautiful landmark for a panoramic view. Click here for the route.

From Reichstag, head to Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. If you would like to visit the exhibition, definitely buy the tickets online beforehand. Tickets are free. The exhibition is an intense one so beware it may take your time for a while.

Then you can visit the Fuhrerbunker. Click for the route.

Afterwards you must see Checkpoint Charlie, but before that if you get hungry, try the Burgermeister in Potsdamer Platz. You will hit two birds with one stone. You are going to eat the best burger in town while discovering the Potsdamer Platz. I also found a cute coffee shop near the Burgermeister, which is called The Barn. You might want to have a cup of coffee there.

There is no rest for the weary.

While discovering Checkpoint Charlie, if you are into souvenirs, you should stop by at the “Mauermuseum Shop”. Not a usual one.

After that, you may head to “Charlie’s Beach” and have a cold beer while laying down if you would like. Beach atmosphere in the middle of the city center.

Charlie's Beach

If you still have time and energy, you can visit the Gendarmenmarkt, click here for the route.

It is a famous square including the concert hall, and several churches.

Maybe check on “Rausch Schokoladenhaus” or “Ritter Sport Bunte Schokowelt Berlin”, or both 😊. If you are a chocolate frenzy.

For dinner,

I ate at Brauhaus Lemke (try the currywurst and different kinds of beers.)

Near the restaurant there are beautiful streets and places you should consider seeing.

· Oranienburger Street

· Hackescher Market

· Torstrasse

are my favorite ones.

Other currywurst restaurant options are,

  • Curry 36 (Kreuzberg)

  • Konnopke’s Imbiss (Prenzlauer Berg)

Day 2

East Side Gallery, Museum Island, Berlin Cathedral, Alexanderplatz

I started the morning by having the best bagels in town in “Yada Yada Breakfast Club”.

"Yada Yada Breakfast Club"

Afterwards, I was ready to check the East Side Gallery. Try to walk through the Oberbaum Bridge. It is a very beautiful bridge that you must see.

The route that I took is here. I didn’t walk all the time though, the buses and metro work great in Berlin.

As it is a large city, you should learn to use the public transportation.

You can get help from google maps all the time.

"Oberbaum Bridge"

You can also check the Wall Museum before walking through the Gallery.

Now it is time for the famous Museum Island, you will have to choose from the five museums, there may be not enough time. Read about the contents of the museums before and decide.

Because they are all very different from each other. You can learn the details of the museums from here.

Each of them is very essential. But I could only visit the Neues Museum, it was spectacular. I wanted to see the Pergamon Museum either, unfortunately it was under construction. Click here for the route.

After that you can visit the Berlin Cathedral. They are side by side. You can get the full glimpse of the city from top of the cathedral. But there will be a lot of steps that you should be climbing. Beware!

Near the cathedral, there is Brauhaus Georgbraeu”, you can have a beer there for a lazy evening. Or head to Alexanderplatz and roam around.

The other favorite beer places across the city are

  • Brewdog Berlin Mitte

  • Hops & Barley

  • BRLO Brewhouse

For dinner, I preferred a little fancy restaurant called “Lokal”. You can check it from here.

They are changing the menu seasonally.

Around the restaurant there are lots of cool bars and brasseries.

Such as,

Day 3

I started the day with a must have breakfast at "44 Brekkie".

You may have to wait for a while, because it will be crowded. But believe me it is going to worth the wait.

44 Brekkie

It was Sunday so I wanted to the check the Mauerpark Flea Market. I took this route, and it was the best decision of the day. Because I went through beautiful neighborhoods.

The Flea market was amazing for a Sunday activity.

On this neighborhood

The cafes and restaurants that you may consider are

  • Prater Beergarten (Beer Garden)

  • 60 seconds to Napoli (for pizza lovers)

  • Babel (Lebanese Kitchen)

  • MaMi's Food and Wine

  • Hokey Pokey (Ice cream shop)

60 Seconds to Napoli

From there I went to Tiergarten to enjoy the view at the Cafe am Neuen See. A place within the nature. Very satisfying and calming.

Cafe am Neuen See

Finally, I ate my last dinner in the city at Wen Cheng - Hand pulled noodles.

Don’t let this opportunity pass you.

I was already full however this dish made my day.

A grand finale indeed.

Hope you can enjoy Berlin as I did.

The city definitely deserves more time than 3 days. There are still lot of places that must be explored.

This is the best that I could for now.

Maybe next time…
